FIRST PARAGRAPH: Well Snowmageddon 2011 has forced us to shut our doors and hunker down with hot cocoa and our box set of THE WIRE. In other words DO NOT come out to see a movie tonight as we will be closed.

FIRST PARAGRAPH: The Oscar nominations loom and we’re set to celebrate a fantastic locally made film. That’s right, WINTER’S BONE returns for an encore screening AND a party on January 29! Special $25 tickets get you into both the movie and the party next door at Farmer’s Gastropub, featuring cast members, live music from Marideth Sisco and a few surprises. There are only two screenings scheduled (6:30 & 9 pm) and tickets are selling at a clip. Drop by the theater to buy your tickets before it's too late!

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Dan Chilton built a very cool mobile-friendly version of the moxie website. It's what I use constantly to check show times.

CALLING ALL LOCAL FILMMAKERS

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Exciting news on the local film maker front: The Missouri Film Alliance and the Moxie will present a five month series dedicated to Springfield-area filmmakers starting in January. These monthly screenings will be on the first Tuesday of the month and are FREE thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. We need two things. First, a name for the event. Springfield Verité? Your Neighbor’s Indies? James Cameron Presents? Please help us come up with something better. And secondly, we need submissions. Any aspiring directors out there should drop off two DVDs of their film (short or long) at the Moxie. Submissions will be rolling so there’s time to finish that project—you know who you are. Spread the word.

MOXIE'S FIFTH BIRTHDAY BASH

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Things have been crazy busy here at the Moxie, but I should take a moment to tell you that, well, we should all take a moment to say THANK YOU DAN AND NICOLE CHILTON. And that is exactly what we will be doing this Saturday (Facebook events and twitter blasts to follow but we are going way back to 2006 to blog it first) as we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Moxie Cinema.

Moxie Membership benefits and more

FIRST PARAGRAPH: We are still scrambling to finalize particulars about our year-long Moxie memberships but think we are close enough to give you the low-down on member perks. To clear up any lingering confusion over the Moxie transitioning to a not-for-profit model, you do not need to be a member to see a movie at the Moxie—you can come and buy your ticket just like you always have, and we'll be thrilled to see you. But if in addition to seeing a great movie you'd like to help ensure the Moxie's rosy future by becoming a member, we'll be thrilled about that, too! Your annual membership donation is tax deductible and carries with it the following perks:
