Moxie Membership benefits and more

FIRST PARAGRAPH: We are still scrambling to finalize particulars about our year-long Moxie memberships but think we are close enough to give you the low-down on member perks. To clear up any lingering confusion over the Moxie transitioning to a not-for-profit model, you do not need to be a member to see a movie at the Moxie—you can come and buy your ticket just like you always have, and we'll be thrilled to see you. But if in addition to seeing a great movie you'd like to help ensure the Moxie's rosy future by becoming a member, we'll be thrilled about that, too! Your annual membership donation is tax deductible and carries with it the following perks:

Changing of the guard

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Hello again! It’s been awhile since my last blog post (just over seven months, to be exact), but I’m back again, for one last time, to make an exciting announcement: The Moxie has sold! For those of you who had no idea we were even for sale, this news might come as a shock; and for those of you who have no idea what The Moxie is, why are you even reading this?! I tweeted about the sale after our closing on Thursday, and since then we’ve been flooded with questions, comments, and congratulations. I figured a blog post would be the easiest and most efficient way to answer all the questions and shed some light on the future of The Moxie.

The Mommy Matinee: The Babies are Coming!

FIRST PARAGRAPH: For the second year in a row, we're hosting a Mommy Matinee with the film BABIES!

Yes, We're for Sale

FIRST PARAGRAPH: By now you might have heard a rumor that The Moxie is for sale. Or that it's sold. Or that we're closing. Or that you can't use your bulk passes. And if you haven't heard any of those rumors from other sources, than let us be the ones to tell you the official story.

That's a Crafty Idea!

FIRST PARAGRAPH: This summer we'll be showing the indie doc HANDMADE NATION about indie craft shows and DIY-ers. So, in the spirit of indie craft shows (think The Renegade Craft Fair, Strange Folk, etc), we decided to have a mini craft show in The Moxie's lobby!

On the Rise

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Here's the thing: We don't like loose change. Quarters are okay. As you've noticed when you purchase something from The Cinebar, it's usually an even amount, plus a 50-cents or so. To get that way, we make our prices really odd (for example, $7.41 for a ticket) and then add the sales tax to make it an even $8. In other words, tax is included. And we don't have to worry about pesky pennies.

Spring Cleaning

FIRST PARAGRAPH: Well, it's Spring 'round these parts...we think. ("There's a saying in Missouri, if you don't like the weather just wait five minutes. In Blaine, with hard work, I think we can get that down to three or four minutes." --WAITING FOR GUFFMAN)

FIRST PARAGRAPH: For those of you who stopped by on Friday night and we were experiencing technical difficulties: we are back up and running, so all shows are a go! We apologize for the inconvenience. :(

FIRST PARAGRAPH: This time of year for us at The Moxie is like a football fan's Superbowl...or a baseball fan's World Series...or a Soap Opera fan's Daytime Emmy's...

Goodbye, Robert E Smith

FIRST PARAGRAPH: The Moxie (and Springfield, of course) lost one of its favorite customers / artists this month, Robert E Smith. We'll miss seeing him around town, and serving him a diet root beer, of which he'd only take one sip, hand back to us, and then ask us to call him a cab.
