MOXIE CLOSED TONIGHT (feb. 1)

Written by Mike

Well Snowmageddon 2011 has forced us to shut our doors and hunker down with hot cocoa and our box set of THE WIRE. In other words DO NOT come out to see a movie tonight as we will be closed.

The Moxie Movie o' the Month (I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS) has been rescheduled to next (Monday, Feb. 7). More details here: http://on.fb.me/eRrb0x

Also our screening of free SUMMER CHILDREN (part of the QUEEN CITY CINEMA series that showcases local films) has been moved to next Tuesday, Feb. 8 @ 9p. For more information about this lost film of the 60s, go to : http://www.thesummerchildren.com

WINTER'S BONE event SOLD OUT

Written by MIKE

Apologies to all that have been calling or dropping by the theater to purchase tickets over the last few days. The interest in this encore screening of Winter's Bone has far outmatched our capacaties...hence the mass notification: Unfortunately, both screenings of Winter's Bone on Saturday, Jan. 29 have sold out.
On a positive note: We will launch a HITCHCOCK series this March. We'll be screening one of the master's films each Saturday in March at noon. Keep posted for more details on how to get advance tickets. Here's the lineup: REAR WINDOW, VERTIGO, NOTORIOUS & PSYCHO.

WINTER'S BONE, a heartwarming foodie film and more

Written by Mike

The Oscar nominations loom and we’re set to celebrate a fantastic locally made film. That’s right, WINTER’S BONE returns for an encore screening AND a party on January 29! Special $25 tickets get you into both the movie and the party next door at Farmer’s Gastropub, featuring cast members, live music from Marideth Sisco and a few surprises. There are only two screenings scheduled (6:30 & 9 pm) and tickets are selling at a clip. Drop by the theater to buy your tickets before it's too late!

Is this sub-zero wind chill breaking your spirit? Don’t worry this week we’re dialing back the heart-racing and ladling out the heartwarming. That’s right the “exuberant restaurant comedy“ SOUL KITCHEN arrives Friday. Well-known curmudgeon and New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane had this to say: "Not to warm to this movie would be churlish, and foodies will drool on demand." Give yourself a treat and come see it! And don’t forget, the Dinner and a Movie deal is still on through Valentine’s Day. More info here: http://www.itsalldowntown.com/articles/299

If you’re one who doesn’t mind a little adrenaline, come out for BLACK SWAN and FAIR GAME--both continue next week. Alas, HOWL leaves after Thursday. Rarely do we get to see poems brought to life on the big screen. HOWL does that and more for two more nights.

Lastly, if you want to help make the Moxie bigger and better in 2011, volunteer! There’s an organizational meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 7:15 in the lobby of the Moxie. Bring a sweater--it’s drafty.

Parking woes solved...sort of

Written by Mike

The Downtown Springfield alliance does all sorts of cool things but we didn't realize they helped us find parking too. Check their handy PDF of available parking out right here:
