Synopsis
Don't miss your chance to see ten spectacular local short films during our annual Moxie Shorts competition. Films range from documentaries to music videos and span across the globe - but they're all done by Springfield residents! And even more exciting: the audiences will determine the winner! So make your vote count.
The ten short films include:
- THE FARM - "Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, and friends. However, this year, it may be a time for family, food, friends and MURDER." Written and Directed by Quinton Akien. Quinton is currently studying at Drury, and this is his second year participating in Moxie Shorts.
- KUSUTKA - "Kusutka is a short glimpse into the culture of a village in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador." Filmed, directed, and edited by Joe Nanez.
- THIS BACKYARD - "THIS BACKYARD is a musical story of a girl leaving the only home she's ever known, and taking the memories she made with her as she goes." Filmed, produced, and directed by Julie Sonner.
- THE FEUD - "This movie is a very loose parody of the story of the infamous Hatfield/McCoy feud and their subsequent truce. Shot locally at the Gray/Campbell Farmstead exactly two years ago." Written, produced, and directed by Johnno Senovich. Johnno is mostly known for his public access show, The Johnno Show, but ow produces "Paranorm" which focuses on the unexplained.
- CARPE DIEM - "A musical adventure about a mysterious man who wakes up one day. He has a most amazing day." Written, directed, produced, and performed by Ben Sonner.
- PAPER DARREN - "Afer becoming animated from an everyday photograph, little paper Darren explores a jumbo world in which he encounters a villainous cowboy who wants nothing more than to end Darren's fun." Written and Directed by Brandon Goodwin and Nate Black, and featuring music from Mute Math.
- BIRDWALK - "Every Saturday morning a bird guide bores people with a bird walk. When this overzealous guide loses control of the hike, his girlfriend searches for a doctor. Wounded and alone, the true love of birds returns to the guide." Co-directed and shot by Tommy Rennier and Chris Rennier. Tommy currently resides in Springfield, while Chris lives in Los Angeles. They are currently working on distribution for a feature film that will star Michael Madsen.
- WAKE IT UP - "Grocery stockman George has lost his imagination. He tries to get it back." Written, produced, and starring Ryan Squibb. Ryan's short film "The Big Idea" won Moxie Short Film Celebration Audience Favorite Award in 2006 and was shown before The Deadpan Comedy Festival.
- DUCK DUCK GOOSE - "Duck, Duck Goose is a dark comedy about Oed who has reached the breaking point. He has an inconsiderate roommate, a recent ex-girlfriend, a boss who fired him, two long-term acquaintances and one of them must die." Directed by Nathan Springer. Nathan is a recent graduate of Missouri State University's Mass Media Production program, in which this film was created. He currently is an editor at Bass Pro Shops in their video and film department.
- FETISH SHOW - "Come explore the underground world of one of the most controversial forms of live entertainment...the Fetish Show. Enjoy a refreshing look at this alternative event." Directed by Ryan Piotrowski.
