Synopsis
Writer/director Noah Baumbach's follow-up to The Squid and the Whale is a daringly funny and bracingly honest exploration of the tender, absurd and sometimes excruciating relationship between siblings. Margot (Nicole Kidman), a savagely bright, razor-tongued short-story writer who creates chaos wherever she goes, sets off on a surprise journey to the wedding of her estranged and free-spirited sister Pauline (Jennifer Jason Leigh). With her all-too-rapidly maturing son Claude (Zane Pais) in tow, Margot arrives with the gale force of a hurricane. From the minute she meets Pauline's fiancé—the unemployed artist Malcolm (Jack Black)—Margot starts to plant seeds of doubt about the union. As the wedding approaches, the two sisters find themselves at the precipice of an unexpected transformation.

Reviews
"Baumbach's achievement stings. It also has the sureness of tone and direction of a Chekhov story."
- Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
"Which brings us back to Kidman, who really IS sensational here."
- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
"Noah Baumbach has followed up his acclaimed 2005 breakthrough"
- Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter
"A brilliantly executed film that, like many real-life family reunions, is alternately painful, funny, and moving."
- Niki Foster, Film Threat
"Dissenters who see this film as a wallow in self-absorption aren't paying attention. Baumbach is acutely attuned to the droll mind games of smart people who only think they're impervious to feeling."
- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
