Get the Flock to The Moxie!

Welcome to this week's edition of the Moxie newsletter! We hope it finds you well after a nice rainy weekend.

Before we get started with upcoming events, we have a couple things to "shout out," as the young kids say these days.

First: A big congratulations to Tammy Stubblefield, this year's Passport Series winner! She was one of the many participants who saw all ten of our designated international Passport Series films, and because she is the lucky winner, she will receive a $500 gift certificate to a travel agency.

Next: We had such a great weekend with our visiting filmmakers (directors of MEETING RESISTANCE), and want to thank everyone who made it a fantastic experience for them. It's a rare treat to have filmmakers visit Springfield, so we appreciate you all making it worth their time! If only we could have more filmmakers come (excuse me while I daydream about that for a few minutes...). Also, there was a misprint in our weekend newspaper ad, which said MEETING RESISTANCE played on Tuesday. It's wrong, and Sunday (today) is the last day for it. We apologize for any confusion. Luckily, the filmmakers plan on releasing a DVD this winter, so make sure to visit their website (http://www.meetingresistance.com) to sign up for updates.

Alright, and now on to our film lineup for the week! We're finishing up our run of the raunchy and star-studded comedy THE TEN, as well as the polemic documentary about the Iraq war, NO END IN SIGHT. Both end on Tuesday!

On Wednesday we lighten things up a bit with two comedies. The first is MY BEST FRIEND, a cute French comedy starring The Moxie's favorite French actor, Daniel Auteuil (this happens to be the third film he's starred in here). Auteuil plays an unlikeable man who makes a bet with a business partner that he has a best friend (which he doesn't). So he enlists a taxi driver to play the part. And of course, it's touching and sweet and will make you chuckle. Also this week we have BLACK SHEEP (not to be confused with mid-90s Chris Farley movie). It's a horror comedy about genetically engineered sheep who wreak havoc on a New Zealand town. It's bloody, and bloody funny. Weta Workshop helped do the special effects (you may have heard of some of their other films, like The Lord of the Rings Series). Both films are only here for one week!

And that about wraps it up for us this week. Thanks as always,

Dan and Nicole C.

THE TEN - Bad behavior makes for good comedy in this irreverent but hilarious collection of ten vignettes inspired by the Biblical commandments. Each story is told in a different style, but contains overlapping characters and themes; all are held together by a narrator who, in turn, has his own moral problems. It's a grand burlesque, boasting an all-star cast that puts the sin back in cinema: Paul Rudd, Jessica Alba, Winona Ryder, Adam Brody, Gretchen Mol, Famke Janssen, Rob Corddry, Liev Schreiber, Oliver Platt, Justin Theroux and Ken Marino. Directed by David Wain (WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER).

NO END IN SIGHT - The first film of its kind to chronicle the reasons behind Iraq's descent into guerrilla war, warlord rule, criminality and anarchy, NO END IN SIGHT is a jaw-dropping, insider's tale of wholesale incompetence, recklessness and venality. Based on over 200 hours of footage, the film provides a candid retelling of the events following the fall of Baghdad in 2003 by high ranking officials such as former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Ambassador Barbara Bodine (in charge of Baghdad during the Spring of 2003), Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, and General Jay Garner (in charge of the occupation of Iraq through May 2003), as well as Iraqi civilians, American soldiers and prominent analysts. NO END IN SIGHT examines the manner in which the principal errors of U.S. policy - the use of insufficient troop levels, allowing the looting of Baghdad, the purging of professionals from the Iraqi government and the disbanding of the Iraqi military - largely created the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today.
