MONGOL and MR LONELY at The Moxie this week!
Hello!
The big question as of late has been, "How's the move coming?" And to answer that: Swell. Just swell! In fact, Dan recently wrote a blog post and added pictures. You can read more about that here: http://blog.moxiecinema.com/post/554 (and make sure to click on the last link for an AWESOME video)
We are planning on being in our current location throughout August, with an opening slated in mid-September. With that in mind, here's what you can look forward to in August at The Moxie:
+ MISTER LONELY - Harmony Korine's latest oeuvre about a commune of celebrity impersonators
+ ROMAN DE GARE - a French thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat
+ THE PROMOTION - silly (but cute!) comedy starring Seann William Scott and John C Reilley
+ ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD - Werner Herzog's latest doc of man vs nature
+ THE FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON - French re-imaginging of the 1950's classic
+ ROMAN POLANSKI: WANTED AND DESIRED - new ldoc on Roman Polanski's controversial trial
+ THE WACKNESS - a hip coming-of-age story set in the early 90's in NYC, starring Ben Kingsly
+ ADVENTURES OF FOOD BOY - family friendly flick starring local celeb Lucas Grabeel
+ GONZO: DR. HUNTER S THOMPSON - new doc about Thompson's career as an outlaw journalist
+ THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES and THE SEARCHERS at The Gillioz!
For more information on all these films, make sure to visit our website at www.moxiecinema.com!
In the meantime, please do yourself a favor and check out MONGOL, a sweeping epic of Genghis Khan, based on scholarly accounts. Rumor has it, this Oscar-nominated film is part of a trilogy, so we can expect to see two more installments of his life and legend.
Also starting this week is MISTER LONELY. Only ground-breaking filmmaker Harmony Korine (KIDS writer, director of GUMMO) could weave Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, her daughter Shirley Temple, and flying nuns into a film about a hideout of celebrity impersonators.
Don't forget - if it gets too hot where you're at, we keep our AC at a lovely 65 degrees (we make up for it at home by not using the AC hardly at all...yet another reason you'll find us at the theater so often!).
Hope you had a good weekend, and that we'll see you again soon,
Nicole and Dan C

MOVIE INFORMATION
MR. LONELY - Only Harmony Korine (KIDS, GUMMO) could weave Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, her daughter Shirley Temple, and flying nuns into a hypnotically funny and truly poignant tale of the instability behind fanaticism and the redemption we can hope to find in one another. The film follows a lonely Michael Jackson impersonator who is invited by a beautiful Marilyn Monroe to a commune in the Scottish Highlands full of other impersonators, including the Queen of England, Madonna, Sammy Davis Jr., and James Dean. In a parallel storyline, the incomparable Werner Herzog plays a Latin American priest who learns his missionary of nuns can literally fly.

MONGOL - Mongol illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan. Based on leading scholarly accounts and Mongol delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. Mongol shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.
