Staff Picks 2023
Every month a member of the Moxie staff picks a film that impacted their lives and we put it up on the big screen. The Staff Picks series is Free for Members.
July's pick was made by Jaylen Early.

* The makers of Ozark Babylon will join us for a Q & A following the screening.

"I have a huge soft spot for the D.I.Y. music community here in Springfield. It’s been a place where I can feel like I belong to something bigger than myself as well as connect with other like-minded individuals. Ozark Babylon is a raw, authentic ode to the roots of our punk community, and it truly deserves to have its time on the big screen! By playing this I want to show appreciation for those that laid down the path for us as well as celebrate the current community."

Synopsis: Ozark Babylon is a little-seen, full-length documentary on the Ozark punk scene released in 1998. It features live footage and interviews with General Zod, Initial Detonation, The Rowskabouts, Satan's Ice Cream Truck, Brine, U$MC, Vanilla Christ, and Grout. It also has interviews with some of the regular scene people around at the time, as well as random silliness. It's a great portrait of the Ozark punk subculture of the 1990's, showing both its high and low points. Considering the amount of work that went into the video's production, little was done to promote it, and only about 30 copies (on VHS) were produced.

Director: Gabe Harper and Shannon Brooks
