Watch Trailer

"A Tony-winning stage actor who has long been a trusty indie ensemble player, Brill seizes his most substantial film role to date with sneering relish."
— Guy Lodge, Variety

"As a laughs-per-capita comedy, and as a showcase for a bracing new comedic voice, The Musical is one of the funniest films I have seen in years."
— Matt Oakes, Silver Screen Riot

"For all its simple, primary-color narrative, The Musical captures something authentic about the all-consuming, world-destroying power of resentment."
— Bilge Ebiri, New York Magazine/Vulture

"That this is Bonilla’s feature directorial debut makes one only hope she keeps making comedies like this, as every escalation, cutaway, and lighting cue is perfectly executed. Doug may be a terrible director, but she proves to be a great one."
— Chase Hutchinson, TheWrap

"As a film in its own right, The Musical is a laugh riot and an absolute winner, but it’s just as effective as an indicator to watch carefully to follow and find what Bonilla and her young cast to do next."
— Abe Friedtanzer, Awards Buzz
